SCORE -10,000 Plus Mentors

If you’re launching a new business, check out SCORE.

SCORE has over 10,500 volunteer business mentors, both working and retired, who counsel businesses from 389 chapter offices throughout the country. Last year, the organization helped more than 400,000 people.

[tag]SCORE[/tag] is headquartered in Washington, D.C. It is a nonprofit dedicated to [tag]entrepreneurial[/tag] education and the formation, growth and success of small businesses nationwide. Volunteers help entrepreneurs become successful small business owners through face-to-face and email business counseling.

Their expert business volunteers help you free of charge:

  • Have your [tag]business plan[/tag] reviewed,
  • Get help preparing a marketing plan,
  • Discuss goals, and
  • Get feedback from experienced professionals.

Meet with a counselor and you’ll get free business planning – period.

On Friday, I attended a SCORE workshop with 20 other small business owners and future entrepreneurs. There is a nominal fee for the workshops. A local lawyer discussed corporate structure, another professional provided marketing advice, a CPA talked about tax strategies, and an insurance agent discussed workman’s comp and other insurance issues. When I launched my first business, I paid hundreds of dollars to lawyers and accountants to get the same advice SCORE provided for a nominal workshop fee.

Recently, I became a SCORE counselor and I volunteered to help others with their new business ventures. New counselors attend the workshop to better understand SCORE and their operations. I was truly impressed with the information provided.

If you are an experienced business professional, consider volunteering your time – become a mentor. You’ll get far more out of it than you ever imagined.
